Quick answer
Is the Evenflo Hummingbird worth it?
The bottom line
Less weight to carry and a one-hand fold once your baby is 6 months old
It folds with one hand and tucks into small spaces, so it's easy to carry on stairs, buses and trips. It's made for babies 6 months and up, so it works best as a second stroller.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Who it's for
- Great if you want a super light stroller for quick trips and travel, without spending much.
- Easy to carry up the stairs with a baby on your hip.
Who should skip it
- Not for a baby under 6 months.
- Skip it if you want to click in an infant car seat. It doesn't take one.
The numbers that matter
This is the weight you'll carry up stairs.
Your bigger child can ride when they're tired.
The diaper bag can ride below instead of on you.
Check the folded height against your storage space.
The stairs at the end of the day
The Hummingbird weighs 9 lb. When your child is out, that's the stroller you're carrying up the stairs or onto the bus. If you live in a walk-up, that part of the day can matter more than a big basket or a fancy seat.
It folds with one hand and closes into a small package. You can tuck it away at home instead of leaving an open stroller in the hall. That's welcome when the front door already has shoes, bags and a stray toy piled beside it.
A light stroller doesn't make the rest of your stuff disappear. You'll still have your child and bag to bring along. But on the last flight of stairs, less stroller is a very nice place to start.
For a baby past the newborn days
The seat starts at 6 months. Think of this as a small stroller for an older baby, or a second stroller for trips. It isn't the seat for those first newborn walks, even though it reclines.
To change the angle, squeeze the strap adjuster and pull down. When your child stops watching the traffic and starts nodding off, you can lower the seat. No grand plan needed. Just a child who was wide awake a moment ago.
The seat takes a child up to 55 lb. That's useful for the toddler who wants to walk to the park but asks for a ride home. You're getting a light stroller to carry, with a seat that still has room in its weight limit for a growing child.
Small stroller, somewhere for the bag
The basket holds 10 lb. You can put the diaper bag below instead of keeping it on your shoulder for the whole walk. Wipes, spare clothes and snacks all share that space. It's a basket for the day's bits, rather than a reason to bring everything.
The Hummingbird has EVA wheels and front-wheel suspension to help with bumps. You'll still meet the joins in the sidewalk on a short errand. A little stroller has to do the trip from your front door, too.
At a stop, push the brake lever down to lock and lift it to release. Then you can get on with finding the snack your child asked for. The one you packed is, naturally, no longer the one they want.
