Short answer
Start with where you will use the stroller most, then choose the seat setup your baby can use now. For frequent car lifts, try a compact model; for long walks from home, put more weight on the ride and basket.
Which type fits your day?

Single-to-double
Who should skip it Skip this list if two kids already need seats, or if you won't add a seat.
Choose for the trip you make most
For car errands, put the fold and lift first. For walks from home, look for wheels that suit the pavement, a useful basket and a seat you like. If you have stairs, the weight can matter more than a long list of seat modes.
Three models show the range. The Evenflo Hummingbird weighs 9 lb and its seat starts at 6 months. The UPPAbaby Minu V3 weighs 16.7 lb and has a from-birth seat. The Cruz V3 weighs 26.5 lb, with a reversible seat and a 30 lb basket limit.
That gives you a real choice: less to carry, a compact from-birth option, or more room for daily walks. Stroller types helps if you also need two seats or want to run.

Buy the baby setup you need now
A stroller shown with a toddler may need extra parts for a newborn. The Joolz Aer+ seat starts at 6 months and needs its separate cot for earlier use. The Vista V3 toddler seat starts at 3 months; from-birth use needs the Infant SnugSeat or Bassinet.
If you already own an infant car seat, use the compatibility guide before buying a frame. The full seat name matters. A part that fits one Nuna seat may not fit another. Match the full name.

Picking the car seat at the same time
If you need a stroller and an infant car seat, buy them as one decision. The seat you pick decides which strollers it clicks onto, and the stroller decides which seats you can use.
An infant car seat is the small, rear-facing seat with a carry handle. On a stroller that takes it, you lift the whole seat out of the car and click it onto the frame. Your sleeping baby stays put. That's the big reason parents want the two to match.
Start with the car seat, because it has to fit your car first. Then check the stroller.
- Pick a seat for your car. Try installing it in the back seat, or ask the store if you can. NHTSA lists car seat inspection stations if you want a trained tech to check it.
- Check the stroller's fit chart. Look for your exact seat name, not just the brand. On the UPPAbaby Vista V3, the Aria and Mesa click straight on. A Nuna PIPA needs UPPAbaby's car seat adapter.
- Buy the adapter with the stroller. If your pair needs one, get it now. You don't want to find out on the drive home from the hospital.
- Practice the click. Attach the empty seat and take it off again a few times. Notice how high you lift it and where your hands go.
Our car seat checker shows which strollers each infant seat fits, and whether you need an adapter.
Think about how long the infant seat lasts
Infant seats have their own limits. The UPPAbaby Aria works from 4 to 30 lb and up to 30 in tall. The Mesa V3 works from 4 to 30 lb and up to 32 in. Your baby outgrows the infant seat long before the stroller seat. The Vista V3 toddler seat holds up to 50 lb.
So don't pick a stroller only because it takes your infant seat. You'll push that stroller for years after the car seat is gone. Keep your child rear-facing in the car as long as you can. That's the AAP's advice. When the infant seat is outgrown, a bigger convertible seat takes over in the car. It stays in the car and doesn't ride on the stroller.
Travel system or separate pieces?
A travel system sells the stroller and infant seat in one box, already matched. That takes the guesswork out. Stroller vs travel system walks through when a bundle makes sense and when separate pieces do. Car seat compatibility explains direct fit and adapters in more detail.
One more thing: car seat recalls live with NHTSA, not with CPSC. Fill out the registration card for the car seat, or register it online, so you hear about a recall. Register the stroller with its brand too.
Start with how you'll use it: everyday walks, travel, or running. The right type narrows the list fast.
Notice what parents stop using
One parent says their Nuna MIXX Next took up their whole trunk and felt bulky and heavy, so they ended up buying a travel stroller and using that instead. A big stroller only earns its space if you actually want to take it out. (What to Expect)
That does not make small the right answer for everyone. One owner of an earlier Fox 3 liked its sturdy feel on walks but found it bulky for trips. Their report is a good reason to separate how a stroller pushes from how it travels. (What to Expect)
Test the parts of the day that feel awkward
Lift the folded stroller to the height of your trunk, rather than just a few inches off the floor. Walk behind it at your normal stride. Put your usual bag in the basket, then recline the seat and see whether you can still get the bag out.
For a small car, compare the folded shape with the trunk opening and leave room for groceries. Weight and fold types explain why a light stroller and an easy fold are separate things.
Spend on the chores you want to make easier
Count the frame, newborn parts, infant seat and adapter in one total. Stroller cost helps sort those purchases. A cup holder can wait; a cot you need on day one cannot.
I'd narrow the choice to two models and try both with the adult who will do most of the lifting. Before buying used, follow the recall check. The stroller finder can give you a short list built around your actual day.
Questions parents ask
What should I try in the store?
Fold it yourself, lift it to trunk height and push through a tight turn. Try your bag in the basket with the seat reclined.
Should I buy for a future second baby?
Only if you like the stroller as a single today. Price and test the two-seat setup before paying for that option.
Should I buy the stroller and car seat at the same time?
Yes, if you can. Pick the car seat that fits your car first, then make sure the stroller's fit chart lists that exact seat. Buying them together means you know which adapter you need, if any, before the baby comes home.
