Quick answer
Is the Baby Trend Passport Carriage worth it?
The bottom line
Car trips with a stroller you can lift at 20 lb and use up to 50 lb
That's for babies who are too little to sit up. At 20 lb, it's easy to lift into the trunk. The seat holds a child up to 50 lb, so it lasts for years. The basket only holds 5 lb. Plan on a diaper bag and not much else.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Who it's for
- Great if you want a low-cost, full-size stroller for walks around the neighborhood.
- Handy if you use a Baby Trend infant car seat, since some click right in.
Who should skip it
- Not for you if you shop on foot and need room for bags. The basket is small.
The numbers that matter
You'll lift this after the baby is buckled in.
Your toddler can ride when they're tired of walking.
Room for a diaper bag, not much more.
These car seats attach without a separate adapter.
Before your baby can sit up
The Passport Carriage seat turns into carriage mode for babies too little to sit up. You can head around the block without putting your baby upright. Some days, getting past the front door is plenty. The park can wait.
The upright seat starts at 6 months. Until then, carriage mode is the setup for those early walks. Later, the strap-and-clip recline lets you change the seat angle when your child gets tired of watching the world.
The diaper bag gets the basket
The basket holds 5 lb. Think wipes, spare clothes and bottles, rather than dinner for the whole family. If you like to walk to the shops, this is the catch. The stroller can carry your child home, but the big grocery haul needs another plan.
If your diaper bag is usually stuffed, think about that before you choose this one. It's the bit you'll use on every walk, not just on shopping days. Baby things have a way of taking over a bag.
The rear brake levers press down to lock and lift to release. That's the motion you'll use at the bench while you hunt for the dropped pacifier. Nothing fancy to learn there.
Now for the last lift of the day
The quick fold starts in the seat. At 20 lb, the closed stroller is still a separate lift after you've buckled in your baby. Picture that part after a long day, with a bag on your shoulder and everyone ready to get home.
Three Baby Trend infant car seats click straight in without a separate adapter. If yours is one of those seats, you can move it from car to stroller without taking your baby out. That's a big deal when the drive finally got them to sleep.
Later, the stroller seat takes your child up to 50 lb. The infant car seat has its own job and its own limits. You can keep the stroller for toddler walks after the tiny-baby car-seat days are over.
